The Work is Ongoing
What did you expect of a writer?
So, something had come to mind ever since the week started, and yet I couldn’t figure out how to say it until now. How could that be? I did not know the answer until rather recently.
Perhaps I should start from the very beginning.
I have been writing a lot of stuff ever since I was a little boy, mainly before I knew that I was born to be a storyteller. To be fair, most of my writing is not meant to see the light of day ever again, no matter how much people beg for it. I mean, one time I tried to transcribe an entire segment of Winnie the Pooh from my VHS tape to paper… and that’s going too far back now. Sorry, not sorry. Let’s fast-forward this biography a bit more than I normally should, over to the school year of 2001/2002, okay?
When I was in 5th grade, which was during the school year of 2001-02, I had a life-changing event happen to me. I discovered the power of the written word in a college-level novel, mainly the omnibus edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and life for me was never the same. It was like a light switch flipped in me, telling me to be the next Tolkien in modern literary history. That ambition led me down a strange path, I’ll be honest, mainly since I was unaware of the rules of writing fiction.
Then I advanced to Middle School, which was filled with problems all its own.
Wait, what does this have to do with the topic of today’s newsletter?!
Oh… right, I need to be on topic. Sorry about that, everyone.
So… the work is still ongoing, and I have no doubt you’d love to know what I’m working on now as I’m writing this. Right now, I’m working on my big project, of course. Let’s make this clear right off the bat, shall we?
My big project, Eternity Wars, is a case of me trying to figure out how to best tell this story in one go. It’s getting to be rather annoying, I’ll be upfront about that, especially since I’m something of a scatterbrain who needs to be held accountable. Still, I’m sure you want to know how far along I am on the first draft of the first novel in this project, right?
Right?
Er… right?
Eh, whatever. I’ll tell you right now. My draft is currently somewhere between 105k and 110k words as of this writing, and I’m nowhere near done with it. What in tarnation am I supposed to do with myself at this rate?
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you wish to know what my percentage is for this novel. Well, be warned, this novel is going to be a meaty boy for good reason. If my plan for this remains the same, my draft is probably going to be between 4-500k words long. I don’t even know why I do this to myself… ugh.
Well, I hope to have more done soon enough. I have a tentative goal for NaNoWriMo to finish the first 186k words of this novel by the end of the month… may God have mercy on my soul, please. I mean, I hope that’s the right way to say it, anyway.
Okay, it’s time for me to get ready to work on my novel. I still need to finish the outline for the blasted thing, which is annoying. -_-
Until we meet again… farewell.
